The group hosted the Slieve Bloom County Cub Talent Show on Friday January 24 in Mountmellick Arts Centre. Rathdowney, Mountrath, Portlaoise and Mountmellick cubs entertained with song, dance and jokes with Rathdowney stealing the show with a solo singer performing Nathan Carter’s Wagon Wheel. Well done to Mountmellick’s Eimear Comerford, Chloe Dwyer, Lily Gordon and Zoe Whiteley who danced to Trumpets. Thanks to Malcolm Smyth for sound and Ron Lawlor for lights.  Thanks to PJ Dempsey from Portlaoise for disco afterwards.  Congrats to Lyndsey Brennan, Portlaoise who won the Christmas hamper, thanks to all who supported the draw. The group had no winners in the 12 days of Christmas draw, the nearest winner was with Portarlington Scouts where the prize of a golf weekend was won by Gerry Dooley. Thanks to all who purchased tickets.

The death occurred on Friday January 24 of Kathleen Houlihan (neé Foran) at her residence in St Joseph’s Terrace. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Peter and her daughter Mary. Remains reposed at her daughter Anne’s residence at St Joseph’s Terrace until removal on Sunday morning to St Joseph’s Church. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Kathleen’s daughter Anne, sons Paddy, Mick, Mario and Petes, family, relatives and friends.
