SOCCER RACE NIGHT

Mountmellick United FC is holding a race night in Moloney’s Gaelic Bar on Friday April 11 at 9.30pm. Featuring the best of English, American and South African races with musical interludes and fun. ST JOSEPH’S CEMETERY

St Joseph’s Cemetery committee seeks volunteers to cut grass for the coming year, call 087 2101257 or contact a committee member. We ask people who are throwing their rubbish into the trees, behind the Altar and onto the adjoining property to stop. Please help to keep our cemetery tidy

Ciorcal comhrá (Irish conversation group)  meets in the library on Thursday mornings from 10am to 1am. All ages and levels welcome for a friendly chat ‘as Gaeilge’ in a relaxed atmosphere.

FRIENDS OF SIMON

Laois Friends of Midlands Simon thank customers and staff of McConville’s Supervalu for their generosity in raising over €300 on Saturday March 29. All monies raised stay local and go towards homeless services in Laois. In 2013 Midlands Simon supported over 80 people in Laois who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

RUNNING CLUBS

The Slieve Bloom Association wll hold an Extraordinary General Meeting to discuss the new constitution on Wednesday, April 9 at 8:30pm in the Community Centre, Kinnity. Members are kindly requested to attend.

LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

Meeting on local government reform & citizen engagement is on Monday April 14 from 7pm to 9pm in Treo Nua, Harpur’s Lane, Portlaoise. New local government structures begin in May and each local authority will consist of a Public Participation Network to enable the public to take an active formal role in the policy making and oversight activities of the local authority’s areas of responsibility. A Working Group Report on Citizen Engagement has set out in detail how local people and organisations can take an active role in policy making by engaging with the new structure. Members of organisations and the general public are invited to learn more at this meeting.

Condolences to the family of Colette Dowling (née Coonan), Kilmainham whose death occurred on Friday March 28. Colette is mourned by her husband Conleth, daughters Keelin and Leona, son Aaron, family, relatives and friends. Reposed at home until removal to St Joseph’s Church on Sunday morning. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. Rest in peace.
