PARISH SOCIAL

St Paul’s Church is having an informal social evening on Saturday June 14 from 7.30pm until late in The Old School Hall, Pearse St. We are having a roasted hog with baked potatoes and salads, followed by dessert with tea or coffee. EXHIBITION

READING CHALLENGE

The library’s children’s non-fiction reading challenge ends today, Tuesday June 10. Presentation of certificates is on Thursday June 12 at 3.30pm.

STORYTELLER VISITS

Michael Phelan, a Dublin based storyteller, visits the library today, Tuesday June 10 at 4pm. All are welcome. 

GARDENING WORKSHOP

COMHALTAS

Comhaltas is organising a trip to Brú Ború in Cashel on Tuesday July 1 departing Mountmellick at 6.30pm returning around midnight.

The show starts at 9pm and at 10pm there is Seisiun so bring your instrument, dancing shoes or brush up your song. Adults: €10. Child: €5. (Children must be accompanied by an adult). The annual junior Feis is in ICA Hall on Tuesday June 10 from 6.30pm. Seisiun follows at 8pm with refreshments. All welcome.

SALE OF WORK AND BAKE SALE

A sale of work and bake sale and raffles will be held in the Owenass Hall on Sunday June 22 from 11am to 4pm to raise funds for Ben & Jake Connolly who suffer from a very rare illness ‘Allan Herndon Dudley Syndrome’.

THE ROCK GAA

New players welcome, register on our training nights Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm.  A weeklong camp for football will be held at The Rock from August 18 to 22. More details in the weeks ahead. Weekly results of the Rock GAA & Rock NS lotto draw are available on the club’s Facebook page. Final draw in Laois GAA all county draw takes place on Friday June 6.

Late terri Conway

The death occurred on Wednesday June 4 of Catherine (Terri) Conway (née Kelly)

of 18 Lord Edward Street, Mountmellick, and late of Oilgate, Wexford, predeceased by her husband Shaun.

Remains reposed in St Vincents hospital on Friday, with funeral Mass on Saturday in St.Joseph’s Church followed by burial in St Joseph’s Cemetery, The sympathy of the community is extended to her sons Mathew and David, her sisters, brother, in-laws, nieces,nephews relatives and friends.

Late Percy Turner

The sudden death occurred on Tuesday June 3 of Percy Turner, Newbridge, formerly of Harbour Street, Mountmellick. Remains reposed in Moloneys Funeral Home on Thursday with removal to St Joseph’s Church on Friday evening and Requiem Mass on Saturday, followed by burial in St Joseph’s Cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to Percy’s children Catherine, Joe, Jim and John, and brothers Sean and Harry.
