This Thursday night Mountmellick’s famous Christmas tree will once again be switched on, together with the town’s street lights.
Mountmellick Pipe Band and Portlaoise Accordian Band will attend, and new PP Fr Micheal Murphy and Chairman of Mountmellick Town Council Cllr Pat Bowe will officially turn on the lights at 8pm.
This coming Saturday, December 1, the Christmas Tree Committee will hold their annual Flag Day in the town, with the community asked to give as much as they can to this great tradition.
The money raised goes not just to the cost of lighting the Christmas tree, but to giving free fuel to the town’s elderly and a gift to every child from Santa, who will visit the cinema hall this year on December 16, the same day as the new Christmas Fair.
All are invited to wrap up warm and come along on Thursday to see their great tree lit up once again.
