Well done to Erika Lewis, Debbicott Mountmellick & Claire Ging, Irishtown Mountmellick who graduated on December 2 from University College Dublin with a Masters Degree in Irish Studies. Claire and Erika are both past pupils of Mountmellick Community School.

READING CHALLENGE

The children’s junior non-fiction reading challenge suitable for ages 7 to12 is now up and running. Call into the library for more details and to sign up.

KNITTING GROUP

Knitting circle meets every Tuesday from 10.30 to noon in the library. Bring along your needles and wool and join us for a cuppa and a chat.

EXHIBITION

An exhibition by artist Joe Ryan will feature in the gallery for the month of February. All are welcome.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

AGM  Wednesday February 19 at 10.30am in the MDA chaired by an ARI Outreach Worker. Our constitution states that all committee members will step down and those who are willing to be on the committee again put their names forward for nomination and possible re-election. All other members are also invited to put their names forward for the election as it is important to have some new committee members each year. It is hoped that all members will attend to elect a committee and discuss activities, speakers and outings they hope the club might provide in the coming year.

LATE EOIN DOOLEY

The tragic death occurred following a road traffic accident of Eoin Dooley of Garoon and Brittas Mountmellick on Friday January 31. Remains reposed at his parents’ residence in Brittas until removal on Wednesday morning February 5 to St Joseph’s Church. Requiem mass was concelebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Peter’s and Paul’s cemetery Portlaoise. The deepest sympathy of the community is extended to Eoin’s parents John and Ann, daughter Molly, brother Diarmaid, sisters Grainne, Sarah and Eileen, Molly’s mother Arlene, sister-in-law Corina, family, relatives and friends.

Mcconville family

The Family of the late Emmett McConville (Supervalu) wish to say thanks to all the community for their prayers during Emmetts illness, those who attended his funeral and who passed on their condolances. Mass will be offered for all.
