LATE MARY DEEGAN
The death occurred on Monday February 24 of Mary Deegan (neé Conroy) of Derryguile. Mary was predeceased by her husband Paddy and her son John. Remains reposed at her residence until removal to St Joseph’s Church on Wednesday morning. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Ann, Michael, Patsy, and Kieran, family, relatives and friends.
LATE BRYAN KIERnAN
The death occurred on Tuesday February 25 of Bryan Kiernan of St Joseph’s Terrace at St Vincent’s Hospital Mountmellick. Bryan was predeceased by his wife Noreen. Remains reposed in Moloney’s Funeral Home until removal to St Joseph’s Church on Thursday morning. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. Members of the UN Veterans provided a guard of honour as Bryan was a member of the Irish peacekeeping force which went to the Congo in 1960. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Bryan’s daughters Ann, Orla, Brenda, Helen and Lynda, family, relatives and friends.

45 new members of the beaver, cub and scout sections and new Cub leaders Fintan Pierce and Louise Lynch were invested into the group in front of family members and friends on Thursday February 13. Paul Dunne and Laura Nerney represented sponsors Supermacs Portlaoise (who sponsored hoodies for the scout troop). On Sunday February 16 the group participated at noon Mass in St Joseph’s Church to celebrate the birthday of the founder of Scouting Lord Robert Baden Powell which fell on February 22. Josh Byrne introduced Emma Whiteley, Daniel Lynch and Liam McComish-Day who brought up scout symbols. First reading was by Aodhán Keady, second reading by Colin Pierce.
