Bishop Daniel Delaney

The Brigidine Sisters and Patrician Brothers will mark the 200th anniversary of the death of their founder Bishop Daniel Delaney in Paddock, Mountrath on Tuesday, July 8 and Tullow Co Carlow on July 9. A ritual remembrance takes place at 3pm in Paddoc on July 8 on the partially restored Delaney homestead. A commemorative plaque will be unveiled by leaders of the two congregations. Local history will be shared and Camross Comhaltas will provide the music. A commemorative mass will be celebrated in St Fintan’s Parish Church, Mountrath at 5pm on the same day. Bishop Denis Nulty will be the main celebrant. All are welcome.

aRts for kids

The Arts Office, Laois County Council is holding art workshops for children with artist Siobhan Keogh over three days for two hours each day in Mountrath from Tuesday-Thursday July 8-10 in the Kiln Lane Community Centre. Children aged 7-12 will get the chance to explore their creative side using many different art materials. All workshops cost €20. Places limited so book early. LIBRARY NEWS

Mythical Maze reading challenge began on July 1 for primary school children. Sign up at the library to receive your wristband and chart. Participants must read 6 books over the holidays to complete the challenge and receive a certificate. Mythical creatures drawing workshop on Tuesday, August 5 11am -12am for girls and boys aged between 8-12 years old. Free but places are limited so booking is essential. Call Aoife at 057 8756378 to book your place. Adult book club next meeting on Thursday July 3 6.15-7.15pm. We will be discussing The Unquiet by John Connolly.
