Deadman’s Dash

Ballyfin AC will be holding a Deadmans Dash meeting in the Deadmans Inn on Thursday 3rd April at 8pm to discuss the event and its organistation. If anyone wants to help on the day or just come down and talk to us you are more than welcome. We look forward to a great meeting and the continued success of the 7km Dash which takes place on on Sunday, April 13 at 12 Noon. Registration is €15 on the day from 10am in the Deadmans Inn or register online at www.active.com. Refreshments and prize-giving ceremony afterwards at the Deadman’s Inn.

ANGLERS CLUB

Mountrath & District Anglers Club Annual General Meeting on Thursday April 3 at 8 pm in Eddie Phelan’s Restaurant Main St. Mountrath. All committee members are asked to attend. We also welcome new members

CAMERA CLUB

Next meeting is Tuesday April 8 at the new earlier starting time of 8pm, in METAC. New theme for April is Portraits. Judging of our theme for April will be on April 22: so you have a couple of weeks to bribe a model! Themes for upcoming months: May is ‘Sport’ and June is ‘Work’. Well done to all who submitted photos for our theme of Detail in March, a special mention for 1st Place Lori Strang, 2nd Place Aine Purcell and 3rd Place Kate Wood. CAKE SALE

A cake sale will be held in St. Fintan’s hall on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April, after mass. All proceeds in aid of Mountrath Christmas Lights. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Clean up week

Clean Up Laois Week will again happen in conjunction with An Taisce’s National Spring Clean month of April. This year, the dedicated week in Laois will take place from Monday to Friday April 7-11 inclusive. Bags, gloves and litter picking devices will be distributed to everyone who registers with Laois County Council, free of charge, and resulting bags collected at an agreed location. Stocks are limited so will be given out on a first come/first served basis.

LAOIS HOSPICE

The sale of jam continues in Costcutters Mountrath and Phelan’s Shop Castletown. We would like to thank everyone for their support for this worthy cause by buying jam and donating fruit.

The outdoor gym in the local amenity park can be used by all ages. We would encourage all local clubs and groups to use this facility.

DOG FOULING

Dog fouling is a growing litter problem in the town, every path in the town is covered in its daily. It is a nightmare for walkers and a health hazard for young children. Local awareness to identify the dog owners responsible is required. Please contact the Council’s Freephone litter hotline @ 1800 32 32 30 with specific details if witnessed i.e. name and address of dog owner, location, time and date.
