CAMERA CLUB

Next meeting is tonight Tuesday April 8 at the new earlier starting time of 8pm, in METAC. New theme for April is Portraints. Judging of our theme for April will be on April 22: so you have a couple of weeks to bribe a model. Themes for upcoming months: May is ‘Sport’ and June is ‘Work’. Well done to all who submitted photos for our theme of Detail in March, a special mention for 1st Place Lori Strang, 2nd Place Aine Purcell and 3rd Place Kate Wood. All photos can be viewed on our Facebook page, just google ‘Mountrath Camera Club’.

CAKE SALE

A cake sale will be held in St. Fintan’s hall on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April, after mass. All proceeds in aid of Mountrath Christmas Lights. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

The knitting group continues to meet every Friday morning 10:30-12:30. New members always welcome

Mountrath Library

The knitting club continues to meet every Friday morning 10:30-12:30 pm all welcome. The library is pleased to announce that from Feb 7, third level students can now join the Library for the reduced rate of only €3. We would like to remind the community that library membership is free to all children and OAPs, €3 for social welfare recipients and €15 for adults.

The library stocks a large selection of fiction and nonfiction titles, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks and language resources. Internet access, photocopying and printing facilities are also available. Free Wi-Fi is also available for library members.

LAOIS HOSPICE

The sale of jam continues in Costcutters Mountrath and Phelan’s Shop Castletown. We would like to thank everyone for their support for this worthy cause by buying jam and donating fruit.

BOXING CLUB

Boxing classes: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 6.30 to 8 pm. Adult Fitness classes: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, (men & women).

Tuesday & Thursday (women only). Morning classes at 10 am every day. No appointments needed. Walk in at any time and train. All levels of fitness catered for. Good selection of weights/machines. Contact Noel @ 085 1654495.

OUTDOOR GYM

The outdoor gym in the local amenity park can be used by all ages. We would encourage all local clubs and groups to use this facility.

COUNTRY MARKETS

DOG FOULING

Dog fouling is a growing litter problem in the town, every path in the town is covered in its daily. It is a nightmare for walkers and a health hazard for young children. Local awareness to identify the dog owners responsible is required. Please contact the Council’s Freephone litter hotline @ 1800 32 32 30 with specific details if witnessed i.e. name and address of dog owner, location, time and date.

CUISLE CENTRE CANCER SUPPORT

A Fun Fundraising night is being held in aid of Cuisle Centre Cancer Support. “Here Comes The Girls” is on Sat April 12 in Rosie O Grady’s, Borris in Ossory at 9pm. Free cocktail for the Girls before 10pm. Ladettes are welcomed. Prize for the best dressed Lady/Ladette on the night is sponsored by Annie Apple. Music by TMC. Spot Prizes and Raffle on the night. OSSORY CYCLING CLUB

OCC, have two big cycling events coming up in the next few weeks. On Sunday April 20 [Easter Sunday] the club are hosting 4 cycling Race in Rathdowney. Two mens and Two Womens. Start time will be 1pm sharp. Estimated finish time 3.30pm. There will be some traffic disruptions during these races. All residents along route will be notified near race time. Route - Start The Square, Coolfin, Larrys Cross, Knockaroo, The Green Roads, Donaghmore. On Sunday 4th May our 100k and 50K Tours will take place . Starting at the local GAA club house at 10am and 11am. Entry fee €25 both events, €20 with cycling Ireland licence.

AWARE

The Aware Support Group for people experiencing depression, anxiety, stress and other mood related conditions meets every Tuesday at 7.30 pm in St. Peter and Paul’s Parish Centre, Portlaoise. Reaching Out Together

Ireland reaching out & Ancestry.com will hold free information seminar in Portlaoise Parish Centre on 9 April at 8pm. The seminar supported by Laois Partnership Company will explore how to use Ancestry.com and also discuss reverse genealogy techniques.
