Boxing Club

Portarlington Amateur Boxing Club are delighted to announce our 1st Registration and Information day on Saturday January 26 from 10am to 4pm at Portarlington GAA Complex, Canal Road. All welcome. Under 16s must be accompanied by a Parent.

Festival Fundraiser

Festival Francais de Portarlington Fundraiser in The Barrow Lodge on Friday February 1 with “Not Enough Music” great night is guaranteed and a fantastic line-up on the night with very talented bands and musicians. Defibrillator Volunteers

Steps are currently being taken to make a defibrillator available to the people of Portarlington 24 hrs per day, 7 days per week. If you are interested in learning new potentially lifesaving skills (or putting existing skills to use) to be the first point of help to people suffering cardiac arrest/sudden death, please contact the Love Port Office , Oriel House , Main Street, Portarlington, Co. The Social services/Meals on Wheels would like to thank Portarlington Town FC and Gracefield FC for their kind donation which they raised before Christmas. It is much appreciated.

Gaelic4Mothers & Others

Calling all Ladies. Interested in an opportunity to be physically active and meet new people in a non-competitive environment? Gaelic4Mothers & Others is aimed at all ladies (you don’t have to be a mother!) over 16 years that are not presently playing with a club and the emphasis is on fun and enjoyment! A meeting to set up a club in the Portarlington area will be held in The Community Centre, Portarlington on Wednesday January 30 at 7.30 pm. St Conleths Club AGM

There was a big attendance at the St. Conleths AGM which took place in the Anvil Inn on Saturday night. The minutes of the previous AGM were read and adopted and this was followed by reports from the Treasurer, PRO, Development Officer and Registrar. In his Chairperson’s address Tommy Hoey thanked all those who helped out with the running of the club in the previous year and also the club’s sponsors. DRAGon’s Den

This Portarlington Development Association launched their Dragons Den awards on Monday January 21 in the Heritage in Killenard at 2pm. MC for the event wass Justin Treacy and he along with Julie Cobb, and representatives from the Heritage Hotel Killenard and Bank of Ireland (sponsors) were present at the launch. The awards themselves take place on March 22 in the Heritage and will also feature a number of awards for Portarlington businesses and the community.

Sympathy

It was with sadness that the town heard of the passing of Kay Ryan (nee Corcoran) Market Square and formerly of Rahan, Tullamore who died on Wednesday January 9. Kay was predeceased by her loving Husband Sean less than a year ago. Condolences to her daughter Edel, son Barry, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Requiem Mass took place on Saturday January 12 at St. Michael’s Church, with burial after in St. Michael’s Cemetery. May Kay Rest in Peace.

Sympathy

It was with deep sadness that the town heard of the Death on January 13 of one of our older and deeply respected resident, John O’Donnell St Brigid’s Square. In his 96th year John had been taken care of by the wonderful Staff at St. Vincents Hospital Mountmellick for many years, with frequent visits from his loving family and friends. John was predeceased by his loving wife Bridie a number of years ago. John will be sadly missed by his sons Ollie, Michael, Tommy & Joe, his daughters Mary & Helen. His Grandchildren and extended family, and many friends. Requiem Mass took place in St. Michael’s Church, with burial after in St. Michael’s Cemetery. May John Rest in peace.

Condolences

Sincere Sympathy goes out to the family of Tony Harris, The Square Portarlington & Stradbally Cottages. Tony will be sadly missed by his Mother Peggy, sisters Gwen & Denise & his extended family and many friends, and especially his Carers & friends from the Moore Abbey houses in Portarlington & Stradbally. Tony was predeceased by his Father Dominic many years ago. Requiem Mass took place at St. Michael’s Church on Wednesday January 16, with burial after in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
