LEA CASTLE

Briefing meeting on Lea Castle Conservation Project, March 11, 8pm in Portarlington Community Centre. The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public about the exciting new development with the offer of grant aid from the Heritage Council for the conservation report for Lea Castle. Full details of this will be announced on the night and the meeting is open to the public. All welcome.

The Portarlington St Patrick’s Day committee would like to thank everyone who donated to their flag day recently. Thanks to all who helped with the collection, and to McLoughlin’s Supervalu for the use of their premises. Monster Draw for Meals on Wheels

The committee of Portarlington Social Services/Meals on Wheels would like to thank Ronnie Ridgeway from Garryhinch who has organised a monster raffle to raise funds for the Meals on Wheels.

Ronnie came up with the idea when he was donated a 50lb turkey. Yes, you are seeing right, a 50lb turkey as 1st prize. He also has 20 other prizes all donated to him for such a good cause. The raffle will take place on Wednesday April 16 at the senior citizens bingo in the Social Services Centre. A book of six tickets will only cost you €5. If you would like to take some to sell or would like to buy some please contact Ann (Bourke) Dunne at 087 4116101 or Jenny Champ Hendy at 057 8623522, or contact Ronnie Ridgeway. It is also hoped to have books in premises around town.

Meditation

Do you suffer from stress and anxiety and want a peaceful way to learn to cope with it? Well then why not join Maureen who has 20 years’ experience in dealing with people through meditation. Meditation will start on Monday March 24 from 7.30pm to 9pm in Portarlington Social Services Centre Link Rd, and each Monday after. Diamond Wedding

Congratulations to Jimmy and Christina O’ Connor St Brigid’s Square Portarlington who recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. They were married in 1954 in St Michael’s Church. Jimmy and Christina celebrated with their children Noreen, Seamus and Pauline, their six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and their extended family. Many more happy years to this wonderful couple.

Lourdes 2014

Meditation Day

Due to the huge response received from our recent meditation day in Mount St Anne’s Killenard last February, we are holding another day on April 5 from 10am to 16.30pm to facilitate all those who were unable to attend. Enjoy a day of quiet time and relaxation in the beautiful surroundings, helping you to free your mind from anxiety and stress. Facilitated by Sr Roisin and Ms Marie Manley Smith. Book Club

St Brigid’s Social Club Garryhinch/Cloneyhurke resumed their book club last Wednesday March 5 at 8pm. New members are welcome to attend for the future.

Tennis AGM

Portarlington Lawn Tennis Club AGM will be held in the tennis clubhouse on Thursday March 13 at 8.30pm. All senior and student members and parents/guardians of junior members are invited to attend. Coaching with Tony Lok resumes on April 2. If interested please ring 087 1231135.

The River Barrow season commences on Monday March 17 until September 30. Derryounce Lakes fishing commences on April 1 until October 31. Club permits/membership available from Portarlington Auto parts, Main St and from Finlay’s Lounge Bracklone Street.
