Portarlington

100th Birthday

Kitty Fingleton (nee Lowry) of Shandra, Portarlington celebrated her 100th birthday on July 14 last. A celebratory Mass of her life was held on Saturday July 12 in St. Michaels Church, Portarlington. Parish priest Fr. Dooley presented a letter from the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins to Kitty.

A party was held afterwards at her home and attended by over 120 of her extended and immediate family and friends. They all shared a lovely Summer evening together retelling stories and singing songs, to which Kitty seemed to know more of the words than perhaps some of the more youthful guests. A great time was had by all, and Kitty was further delighted to be visited at her home the following day by the Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, the Most Reverend Denis Nulty who even sang Happy Birthday to her prior to delivering a blessing.

Kitty was born in Mount Temple Moate on July 14, 1914. She worked in Goodwins Drapery Main Street when she came to town, and was married to Denis Fingleton, who passed away a number of years ago. Kitty still lives in her own home with the help of her extended family.

Sean the very best for his future.
