Honours Degree

Congratulations to Lyndsey Kiernan (nee Allman) Portarlington who received an honours degree in humanities from St Patricks College Carlow.

Linsey’s husband Tommy, daughter Ava and her sisters, Eileen and Mary celebrated with her. Her extended family and many friends, are so proud of her, and wish her the very best in the future.

A public meeting will take place in the Port GAA Centre on Wednesday November 14 at 8.30pm, with a view to reforming the Portarlington Boxing Club. All are welcome.

4th Laois Scouts

We would like to say a very sincere thank you to everyone who supported our sale of work on Saturday and who donated items, cakes etc. Thanks also to everyone who helped out on the day.

Art and Craft Fair

Kwando Champ

Congratulations to 18-year-old Sean O’Callaghan Hoey who recently became Irish senior Tae Kwando champion. 
In tightly contested bouts Sean saw off all challengers (in the over 18 under 35 senior category) to take the title. Well done Sean.

Table Quiz

Many thanks to all who supported our recent table quiz to raise funds for the club. A special thanks to quiz master Declan Kirrane who did his usual excellent job with the questions and to the Anvil Inn for the use of their premises on the night.

Guide Dogs

Sympathy

Condolences to the family of Elizabeth (Betty) McCullagh, (Nee Murphy), Kilmalogue, Portarlington who died on November 3 at St Vincent’s Hospital Mountmellick. Betty was predeceased by her husband Joseph a number of years ago. She will be missed by her brothers and extended family and friends. Requiem mass took place on Tuesday November 6 at St Michael’s Church, with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Betty rest in peace.

Condolences

Sympathy is extended to Brendan McNally and his family, Spa Street on the death of his brother, Patrick McNally from Quarry Road, Carrickmore. Co. Tyrone. Patrick will be sadly missed by his wife Kate, his sons Declan and Barry, daughters Cathy, Patricia and Lorraine. His brothers Johnny and brendan and sisters Anne and Bridget. Also his extended family and friends. Requiem mass took place on Tuesday November 6 in St Colmcille’s Church Carrickmore. May Patrick rest in peace.

Port’s Vision

Port’s Vision 2020 plan presents a vision for the town’s future, a foundation of the Town’s regeneration and growth up to the year 2020. It focuses on five sectors to stimulate job growth: business, education, community resilience, tourism and agriculture. Five action groups have been formed as a result of consultations, each having objectives and tasks identified for their sector to stimulate growth. Two meetings have been scheduled and we would appreciate your contribution. Meeting for The Gathering takes place on Wednesday November 21 at the Oriel House, Main Street.

Men’s Shed

Ports Community Men’s Shed is open to all men, employed, unemployed, retired, semi-retired are welcome. Come along have a cuppa and a chat. Christmas Fair

Portarlington Lions club have set a date for their Christmas fair and toy Sale. It will take place on December 1 in the community centre between 2pm - 5pm. Anyone wishing to add their own stall are welcome to do so at a cost of €10. Everyone is very welcome, we expect a large volume of people on the day and best of all. All money raised goes directly back into the community in which it came from. Santa Claus will be attending our Christmas fair too.

SUICIDE TALK

The parents council of Coláiste íosagáin are holding a talk for parents called ‘Suicide Awareness For Parents Of Teenagers’, this talk will be given by Josephine Rigney, suicide prevention resource officer, HSE. Admission is free and the talk will take place on Wednesday night December 5 in the school from 7.30 - 9.30pm

Parents & Friends OF Moore Abbey

We will not be holding the Christmas fair this year. Sincere thanks to all who have attended or helped out in the past. Many thanks to the community centre committee for its support in facilitating us. Church gate collection November 24/25. The next committee meeting will take place on Friday November 16 at 8pm in the community centre.
