Retired Nurses

The Laois-Offaly branch of the retired nurses association will hold their meeting on Monday, September 10 in the SIPTU offices Portlaoise at 3pm. New members are welcome.

rish Wheelchair rally

The Irish Wheelchair Association’s annual motoring rally for disabled drivers and passengers on September 15, commencing and finishing from the Maldron Hotel. The rally is open to both disabled drivers and disabled passengers to participate in. The entry fee for a team is €30 including an evening meal and prizes. The Heath GAA funday

The Heath GAA Club car boot sale and family fun day on September 9. Gates open to to sellers at 8am, and to the public at 10am, with the sale finishing at 2.30pm. Fees on the day are as follows: sellers €10 (cars) €15 (car + trailer) €15 (vans). No large vans. Public admission is €2 adults (kids go free). Space for 80 cars, and the hall can hold 20 stalls (not provided). Tea, coffee and refreshments on the day as well, and the event will be fully supervised. Spaces will be supplied on a first come, first served basis, so it is advised to get there early. Also on the day there will be fun and games for all the family. Email theheathcarboot@gmail.com

LATE DR SEAN BOYLE

Condolences to the family of the late Dr Sean Boyle of Ballydavis, Portlaoise and formerly Arranmore Island, Donegal who passed away suddenly on Sunday August 27 at his residence, Dr Sean, predeceased by his wife Margaret, is sadly missed by his son Colin, brothers Brendan, Patrick, sister Lena Ward extended family and friends.

Funeral mass Wednesday, August 29 in The Church of The Sacred Heart, Stradbally. Burial afterwards to Oakvale Cemetery.

The total amount collected at the recent church gate collection came to €4,248.29. This was comprised of Portlaoise 2517.84, Ballyfin 271.67, Stradbally 557.11, Timahoe 170.23, Vicarstown 197.57, Ratheniska 147.41, The Heath 386.46. Thanks to all the donors who contributed so generously to this collection.

DIVINE MERCY

NEW CATHECIST

Kevin Coleman, a native of Vicarstown, will take over Margaret ’s role in the parish. A nurse by profession he has worked in mental health, intellectual disability, addiction studies and nursing administ ration. Margaret Dooley returns to her teaching post in Scoil Mhuire, after five years in the parish.
