Laois Hospice AGM

The Laois Hospice Foundation Annual Public Meeting takes place on Friday, January 17 at 8pm in the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise. Special Guests are Mr Sean O’Rourke and Ms Eileen Dunne of RTÉ. Why not come along and hear about hospice services in Laois and where the monies collected are spent. This should be a very enjoyable and stimulating night. Everybody is welcome to this meeting and your support would be very much appreciated. Refreshments will be served on the night. Thank you for your continued support to Laois Hospice.

Couch to 5km

Portlaoise Athletic Club’s 10 week Couch to 5k programme returns again to Portlaoise on Thursday, January 9 at 6pm. It will end with the Streets Of Portlaoise 5k road race on St Patrick’s day. Registration Saturday January 4 at 3pm at the Portlaoise Athletic Track beside the Portlaoise College or on January 9. Check Portlaoise AC on Facebook.

Great Heath 10km

Annual 10km run takes place on Sunday, January 19 with race starting at 11am. Entry online at www.runireland.ie. Late entries on the day.

Mens Sheds

Now open at the Portlaoise Equestrian Centre Tuesdays 11am-4pm & 7.30pm to 10pm. Thursdays 11am-4pm.

Toastmasters

Do you have a wedding speech to deliver, a presentation to make, or need skills to build confidence? If so Toastmasters can help. The Portlaoise branch meets each month at the Killeshin Hotel at 8pm. New members welcome. First two sessions free.

Scoil Chriost Rí

A cake sale held by the girls of Scoil Chríost Rí and a cash donation by HSE Alvernia Service has helped raise funds to provide aid to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Congrats to Pat Kinsella who won the €20,000 jackpot in the Portlaoise Parish Lotto when the numbers were drawn on Thursday January 2. Numbers drawn: 9,11,13,14. The 26 match 3s won €39 each. This week’s jackpot is €11,000.

Late Lily RONAN

Condolences to the family of the late Lily Rohan (née Harding) of The Green, Kilminchy, Portlaoise who passed away peacefully on December 28 at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. Deeply regretted by her loving family, son Tim, daughters Katie and Dani, brothers Jimmy, Paddy and John, sisters Ann, Kathleen, Theresa, Christy, Dolly and Margaret, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Reposed her residence. Removal to SS Peter and Paul’s church for requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery Portlaoise.

Late Elizabeth Hogan

Condolences to the family of the late Elizabeth (Betty) HOGAN (née Paisley) of 42 St John’s Sq, Portlaoise, who died on December 28, in the loving care of her husband Pat and his family, and the Laoise Palliative Care Team. Deeply regretted by her loving family niece, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at the Chapel of Rest at The Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, with removal to SS Peter & Paul’s Church for Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in SS Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.

Late Breda MAC SULLIVAN

Condolences to the family of the late Breda Mac Sullivan (née Noonan) of Kilminchy, Portlaoise, formerly of Kilross, Tipperary and Douglas Cork who died on January 1. Predeceased by her husband Tony. Deeply regretted by extended family, relatives and friends. Reposing in Galbally removal to Galbally Church for Requiem Mass. Burial afterwards in St Michaels Cemetery Tipperary.
