The next meeting of the Laois branch of BirdWatch Ireland will be held on Tuesday evening 29 April, when Dr Alex Copland of BirdWatch Ireland will speak about the Irish Dipper. The meeting will be at the Portlaoise Parish Centre at 8pm. The talk is open to everyone with an interest in wildlife. Entry is free but all contributions are welcome. Run for Rise
Calling all walkers, runners and joggers to join us at the Annual Portlaoise Mini-Mini-Marathon on Friday, May 2 in aid of the RISE Foundation. Starting at Centerpoint Car Park at 6.30pm. All are welcome, make it a family occasion, bring the children in the buggy. For the ladies if you are taking part in the Flora Mini-Marathon in June this 5.5km route is an excellent opportunity to test your fitness level and help a great cause in the process. Order of Malta
The Officers, cadet leaders and Senior members of the Order of Malta Portlaoise units, would like to congratulate all our cadets who participated in the Regional Competitions held recently in Emo. Lauren Adams Lynett came 2nd in U13 Girl Individual First Aid competition. John Keegan 1st place U16 Boy Individual First Aid Tirna Dunne, Aimee Chadwick & Amy Hennessy who came 1st in the Health and Home Nursing Competition. John,Tirna, Aimee & Amy will go on to represent the Midland region in the All Ireland Competition in June. Thanks to our other cadets who acted as casualties and to Gabriel Lawlor and Cyril Duggan for there help and allowing us the use of St Pauls NS. Thanks also to our senior members who helped on the day. Also the Cadets parents who made various cakes and buns on the day. All help was very much appreciated.
Is your child bored? if they are between the ages of 10 - 12 years, why not drop them down to the Portlaoise Youth Cafe (over Subway) only €1 entry on a Thursday evenings 4- 6pm or Saturday 3 - 5pm. They can make new friends, play pool, air hockey and many fun games. Staff and volunteers are fully trained in child protection and are Garda vetted.
Portlaoise College’s TY class present documentary The Forgotten Famine People of Queens County 1845-50 that tells the story of the famine in Laois. The film will be screened on May 7 at 8pm in the Dunamaise Arts Centre €5 entry.
Run for Wheelchair
