Author Alan Nolan visited Portlaoise Library to Launch the Summer Reading Challenge this week. He was terribly impressed with the fancy dress costumes of students from Maryborough National School and Scoil Mhuire Primary School who dressed up as mythical creatures to represent the theme of this year’ s challenge ‘Mythical Maze’. All were determined to complete the challenge by reading six books this summer. Alan will return later in the summer to do comic drawing workshops in Portlaoise, Mountmellick and Rathdowney Libraries.

We had our last meeting before the summer and we will be back the first Wednesday in September. The walk for the cuisle centre is on the 15th June and all members are urged to attend as a guild! We had a speaker from the Lancôme counter in boots and she was a huge hit! Thank you Debbie! Thank you to all the ladies for the last 10 months! It has been great and hope to see you all in September along with some new members. Lastly we would like to express our deepest regret and sorrow at the passing of a wonderful woman, Kathleen Gorman. She helped set up our guild many years ago and was a huge encouragement in everything we did. We are shocked and devastated by her passing and would like to sympathise with her family and friends. She will never be forgotten and we will miss her dearly.
