Portlaoise pioneers support local youth

Pioneers in Portlaoise recently came together to help support young musicians in the town.

On April 12, Portlaoise band Elephants in the Coldroom represented Laois at the Irish Youth Music Award’s 2014 (IYMA’s) in the Aviva Stadium Dublin. After many months of hard work, preparation and practicing, the group made it to the final six in the competition, which is a huge achievement considering the compeititon is nationwide.

The Irish Youth Music Awards programme is a non-alcohol event.

The Laois heat which featured a number of local bands, was kindly sponsored by the Portlaoise Total Abstinence Association.

Joe Thompson, Project Manager at Youth Work Ireland Laois was delighted with the local support from the Portlaoise Total Abstinence Association, and with the band’s success at the event held last month.

“The young people, volunteers and staff of Youth Work Ireland Laois and Portlaoise Youth Cafe would to like to thank all involved for making the IYMA’s 2014 a huge success”, he said.
