A great Bingo is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.


The Men’s Shed is open every Thursday morning from 10am to 12 noon at the old Convent School. The hospitality room is now complete.

It is a great opportunity for all men to come together to share their skills and talents, learn new ones or simply meet for a chat and a cuppa. New members welcome every week.

Hurling & Camógie

Rathdowney/Errill Hurling Club and St Brigids Camogie club are hosting Strictly Come Dancing in the Templemore Arms on Saturday March 1. Preparations for this event are well underway.

A beginners’ gymnastics class will be starting on Tuesday February 11 in Scoil Bhride, Rathdowney. Class will be from 4-5pm and cost €5 per child per class. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 (inclusive) will be accepted. You must call to book your child a place prior to February 11 as places are limited. On Saturday February 22 Ossory Cycling Club are holding a table Quiz in O’Reilly’s lounge at 9pm. Table of four €40 euro. Lots of spot prizes. Your support is welcome. It is hoped that Club members will make a special effort to attend.


There was no winner in this week’s Jackpot which was €12,100. The numbers drawn were 1, 2, 3, 12. The 10 winners of €15 were Mickey Whelan, Mark K, Mrs O’Dwyer, Phil Mockler, Marie Sinnott, Mark Peters, Colm Dowling, Dave Treacy, Chloe Whelan & Tom Mahon. Next week’s Jackpot will be €12,250. Tickets can be purchased in all shops or any local promoter.


The Irish Blood Transfusion Service regularly call for more donations and are regular visitors to Laois. Their next visit is in Rathdowney (Scoil Bhride NS) on the Monday February 17 from 5pm to 8:30pm.


The next meeting of Rathdowney Book Club in on Monday February 17 at 8pm in the library. We are looking for some new members. The book club meets once a month on a Monday evening. This month’s book is Christine Falls by Benjamin Black. Looking forward to seeing you there.


If you are interested in learning or refreshing your spoken Irish, classes will take place on Monday evenings at 7.30 in Scoile Bhride Rathdowney. There is no charge for these classes. Classes suitable for adult beginners. For more details please contact 0505 46546.

Gospel Choir

Rathdowney Parish presents a Concert by the Portlaoise Gospel Choir to be held in St Andrew’s Church, Rathdowney on Friday February 21 at 8pm. Tickets €10 including light refreshments.

Laois Federation ICA

Laois week in An Grianán takes place from 16-20 June. Courses available include cookery, dancing, fabric boxes, Assissi Embroidery, bets & bits, photography, pamper me, aromatherapy and encaustic art. Places are open to members and non-members.
