Concert

Rathdowney Parish presents a Concert by the Portlaoise Gospel Choir to be held in St Andrew’s Church, Rathdowney on Friday February 21 at 8pm. Tickets are €10 and include light refreshments.

BINGO

A great Bingo is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.

MUSEUM

The Donaghmore Workhouse and Agriculture Museum is open Monday to Friday 11am to 5pm.

Come and see for yourself what life was like in a real workhouse.

Group tours are also very welcome here. If you wish to book a group tour please ring Trevor on 086 8296685.

MEN’S SHED

Eight members of the Men’s shed attended a briefing on Saturday in Portlaoises Men’s Shed, concerning the Laois Winter Classis Cycle fundraiser.

On Sunday morning Feb 9, they marshaled Durrow, Ballyragget and Castlecomer routes on the cycle.

We would like to wish Portlaoise Men’s shed all the best of luck.

Rathdowney’s Men Shed is open every Thursday morning from 10am to 12 noon at the old Convent School. New members welcome every week.

PARENT & TODDLER

To mark our 10 year anniversary, the Parent & Toddler group will hold a coffee morning on Friday February 28 from 10-12 in the Marion Centre.

The coffee morning is in aid of Crumlin Hospital and the Laura Lynn House.

All are welcome, and we love to see past members for a coffee and a chat.

Hurling & camógie

Rathdowney/Errill Hurling Club and St Brigids Camogie club are hosting Strictly Come Dancing in the Templemore Arms on Saturday March 1.

Preparations for this event are well underway. Check out our facebook page for all details and pictures of our dancers working very hard.

GAA LOTTO

There was no winner in this week’s Jackpot which was €12,250.

The numbers drawn were 1, 6, 12, 22.

The 10 winners of €15 were Michael Ryan, Kay Butler, S & N Meagher, Aaron & Ryan Costigan, Christina Stapleton, Mary Finane, Seamus Fogarty, Noreen Whelan, Michelle Meehan and Nora McGrath.

Next week’s Jackpot will be €12,400. Tickets can be purchased in all shops or from any local promoter.

GYMNASTICS

A beginners’ gymnastics class takes place every Tuesday in Scoil Bhride, Rathdowney.

Class will be from 4-5pm and costs €5 per child per class. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 (inclusive) will be accepted.

TABLE QUIZ

On Saturday February 22 Ossory Cycling Club are holding a table Quiz in O’Reilly’s lounge at 9pm.

Table of four costs €40. There will be lots of spot prizes.

Your support will be welcome. It is hoped that Club members will make a special effort to attend.

Laois Federation ICA

Laois week in An Grianán takes place from 16-20 June. Courses available include cookery, dancing, fabric boxes, Assissi Embroidery, bets & bits, photography, pamper me, aromatherapy and encaustic art.

IRISH CLASSES

If you are interested in learning or refreshing your spoken Irish, classes will take place on Monday evenings at 7.30 in Scoile Bhride Rathdowney. There is no charge for these classes. Classes suitable for adult beginners. For more details please contact 0505 46546.
