Two big cycling events are coming up in the next few weeks. On Sunday April 20, Easter Sunday the club are hosting four cycling races in Rathdowney. Two men’s and Two women’s races. Start time will be 1pm sharp. estimated finish time 3.30pm. There will be some traffic disruptions during these races. All residents along route will be notified near race time. Route: start The Square, Coolfin, Larrys Cross, Knockaroo, The Green Roads, Donaghmore Finish The Square. Also on Sunday May 4, our 100k and 50k tours will take place. Starting at the local GAA club house at 10am and 11am. Entry fee €25 both events, €20 with cycling Ireland licence.


A great bingo is held every Tuesday night at 8.30pm in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.


The Donaghmore Workhouse and Agriculture Museum is open Monday to Friday 11am to 5pm. Come and see for yourself what life was like in a real workhouse. Group tours are also very welcome here, if you wish to book a group tour please ring Trevor on 086 829 6685. We are also available on Face book and Twitter.


Charity Cycle Group have started a bonus ball in Ian’s, the draw takes place every Saturday night only €2 per line, please support.

To everyone who contributed and helped out at the recent collection in Supervalu for Temple Street Children’s Hospital a total of €955 was raised. Also thank you to the Lost Souls Motorcycle Club for their kind donation.


This month’s book is Red Sky in Morning by Paul Lynch, the next meeting in on Monday 28 April, in the library at 8pm.


The organisation started in Ireland in 1911 and the Rathdowney Guides opened in 1984 and are celebrating 30 years. To commemorate this occasion we are hosting a Gang Show (variety concert) on Saturday April 26 at 3pm in the Rathdowney Community Centre. We would like to invite anyone involved as a leader or member in the past to join us for a fun afternoon.


There was no winner in this week’s jackpot which was €1,750. The numbers drawn were 12, 13, 18, 22. The 10 winners of €15 were Sean Keyes, Andrew Kavanagh, Tomas Hickey, Fireman Sam, Maureen Smyth, Cillian Stenson, Mick Hickey, Breda Loughlin, Tommy Hickey, Brian Dowling. Next week’s jackpot €1,900.


Well done to the 24 cub scouts and their leaders who had a very successful two night camp in Srahan, Camross, Co Laois.
