OSSORY CYCLING CLUB

On Sunday April 17, OCC held their second Ras An Laoighis. Great weather welcomed the cyclist here in Rathdowney. A total of 140 cyclist took part in the three Races. We had no local cyclist feature in any of the prizes but all finished in the bunch finishes. OCC would like to thank the people of Rathdowney and surrounding areas for their patience while the event was being run, also to the road marshals for their time given to direct traffic on the day. To our local GAA club for the use of their premises and finally to the ladies for the tea and sandwiches before and after event.

A special thanks to a all those cyclist who travelled from all different parts of the country and for helping Ras an Laoighis to be yet again a great success. On the day there were a few accidents, we at OCC would like to wish those Cyclist involved a speedy recovery.

RATHDOWNEY GAA LOTTO

There was no winner in this week’s Jackpot which was €2,200. The numbers drawn were 1, 10, 11, 25. The 10 winners of €15 were Joe Fitzpatrick, Martin Tynan, Orla Treacy, Emily & Johnathan Blanc, Michael Flanagan, Barbara Fitzpatrick, Harry Wynne, Emma Dollard, Eppie Fitzpatrick, Robert McGrath. Next week’s Jackpot will be €2,350. Tickets can be purchased in all shops or from any local promoter.

BINGO

A great Bingo is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.

ART CLASSES

Adults every Tuesday 10-12 in the Rathdowney Community Centre also painting classes for children 3pm – 4.30 every Friday. Call Elga on 086 2485887 or 057 8737899 for more information.

PARENT & TODDLER GROUP

Meets on Friday mornings 10-12 in the Marion Centre. All welcome parents and minders with children from new born to pre-school.

FUNDRAISER

Heywood Community School, Ballinakill, Co Laois will be holding a school fundraiser involving a Walk(5k), Run(5k) and Cycle (40k) on May 11, commencing at the school at 11.00 a.m. Registration from 10.30 a.m. €10 adults, €5 students. AWARE

The Aware Support Group for people experiencing depression, anxiety, stress and other mood related conditions meets every Tuesday at 7.30pm in St. Peter and Pauls Parish Centre, Portlaoise. EASYRIDERS

For anyone who wishes to register for this year’s cycle, please do so with any committee member or phone Rory on 087 2388064 cut off for registration this Friday May 2. A bonus ball has started in Ian’s, the draw takes place every Saturday night only €2 per line.

Agricultural show

Ossory Agricultural Show Society 1898 -2014 will be held on Sunday, July 27 at the Showgrounds on the Mountrath Rd, Rathdowney. Following classes: Cattle, Sheep, Horses, Poultry, Craft, Eggs, Flowers, Baking, Jams, Sewing, Knitting, Vegetables, Photography, Flower arrangements. Junior classes, most suitable dressed lady and gentleman on show day. Little Miss Ossory, most suitable dressed boy on show day. Fun dog show, pony games, trade stands, cooking demonstration, music and lost more. CAP Reform

A CAP reform meeting will be help on Thursday May 8 in Clough Community Hall at 8.30pm. The meeting will address the the impact of CAP reforms on your farm income. Peter Young from The Farmers Journal will speak on the new Single Farm Payment, Andy Dunne, Agricultural Consultant will speak on the new REPS and capital grant schemes. Máiread McGuinness MEP will address the meeting to be chaired by John Finlay local Fine Gael candidate. All are welcome.
