Come and help clean up Rathdowney, a group meet every Wednesday night at 7.30pm in the square, if you can spare an hour please come along and help out. If possible bring a shovel or brush or hoe. Some great work is been done but it needs more people for the summer months.

DONAGHMORE WORKHOUSE & AGRICULTURE MUSEUM
Summer opening Hours from Saturday May 31, the museum will be open all weekends and bank holidays throughout the months of June, July, August and September between the hours of 2pm to 5pm. A collection will take place on Thursday and Friday, 19 and 20 June in Dunnes Stores and Supervalu Rathdowney on behalf of the Mater Foundation Heart and Lung appeal. In appreciation from Sally and Joe Wheelan.
There was no winner in this week’s jackpot which was €3,100. The numbers drawn were 14, 21, 22, 23. Ossory Cyclin Club in conjunction with National Bike Week are holding a 10K leisure cycle on Tuesday June 17, starting at 7pm from the Square Rathdowney. Supervised cycle, all are welcome. Helmets must be worn on cycle. Also every Tuesday night until end of summer months OCC are reintroducing their A, B and leisure group cycles. Cycles will commence at 7pm sharp. Each group will have its own team leader and each leader will pick a course that will suite their group. We would like to welcome any new leisure cyclist to joins on our cycles, the leisure cycle is guaranteed to be at a pace that will suite everybody in the group (slow). All are welcome to join us, Juveniles must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Important, helmets must be worn at all times. No helmet no cycle. Laois County Show will take place on Sunday, July 27 Coolfin, Rathdowney Co Laois. €1,000 beef bullock, €1,000 beef heifer, €1,000 fresian calf championship, crossbred Belgian blue championship, working hunter championship, vintage, sidesaddle, cookery demonstration, home produce and side shows.
Other attractions: cattle, sheep, horses, poultry, craft, eggs, flowers, baking, jams, sewing, knitting, vegetables, photography, flower arrangements. Junior classes, most suitable dressed lady and gentleman on show day. Little Miss Ossory, most suitable dressed boy on show day. Fun dog show, trade stands, music and lost more.

Laois Walks committee has announced a number of events which are to take place as part of the month long festival. Events begin on Tuesday, July 1 in Timahoe with a number of outings throughout the month. On Tuesday, July 8 a grade B walk (9km) takes place in Capponellan Woods in Durrow, starting from Capponellan Woods car park from 7.30pm. On Friday July 11 a grade C walk (2 hours) will take place at Grantstown Lake at 7.30pm. Events over the month will take in Dunmore Woods, Leafy Loops in Durrow and various locations throughout the county.
