Thanks to all for supporting the club’s recent fundraiser. Congratulations to Paddy Bergin of Erril on winning the contents of the trailer. On Saturday, September 13 the club will host a clothes drive. Items for donation be dropped to the GAA pitch in Rathdowney any time up to 12.30pm on the Saturday. A great Bingo is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.

Irish History Live

An interactive ‘Irish History Live’ show with Michael Moylan is being hosted by Laois libraries. This year’s topic is World War 1. It takes place at Abbeyleix Library on Tuesday, August 26 at 3 pm.

DONAGHMORE COMMUNITY ALERT

A meeting was held in the Swallows Quarter Centre on Friday night August 8. The purpose of the meeting was to form a community alert group in the Donaghmore area with initial objective to set up a text alert system. There was an attendance of over fifty people and advice and guidance was given from several people on the night. More will follow, and another meeting arranged.

CLOVER UTD

The club started the new season last Sunday with a game against Freshford Town. Clover Utd got a bye into the first round of the Meagher Shield and are to play the winner’s of Ormondvilla v River Rangers in the second round at home. Also Clover A team are to play Brookville away in the league on Sunday August 31.

RATHDOWNEY GAA LOTTO

No winner in this week’s jackpot which was €4,600. The numbers drawn were 1, 8, 15, 26. The 10 winners of €15 were Johanna Mahon, Jer Peters, Liz Wall, Pamela Whelan, Felicity Deegan, Bridget Donavan, Liz Hickey, Ger Mitchell, N&S Meagher, ML Dowling. Next week’s Jackpot will be €4,750. Tickets can be purchased in all shops or from any local promoter.

The previous weeks results are there was no winner of the jackpot which was €4,450. The numbers drawn were 4, 22, 24, 27. The 10 winners of €15 were Lisa Blanc, Nicola Ryan, Judy Phelan, Johanna Mahon, Georgina Galvin, Mary Campion, Margaret Stapleton, Donal Hickey, Conor Meagher, Edward Purcell. Next week’s Jackpot will be €4,600.

MACRA AGM

Took place on Sunday August 10, in O Connells bar Cullahill. It has being a great year for Rathdowney Macra with lots of new members joining the club in the last year. The new committee is: Chairperson: Lisa Walsh, Secretary: Fiona Walsh, Treasurer: Julie Lupton, PRO: Ian Fitzgerald, Ag Affairs: Michael Holohan, Sports & Social: Liam Barton, Competitions Secretary: Mairead Devitt, President: Diarmaid Delaney. OSSORY CYCLING CLUB

Meet every Tuesday night until end of summer.OCC are reintroducing their A, B and Leisure group cycles. Cycles commence at 7pm sharp. Each group has its own team leader who picks a course that will suittheir group. We welcome any new leisure cyclist to joins on our cycles, the leisure cycle is guaranteed to be at a pace that will suite everybody in the group [slow].
