NIGHT WITH THE STARS

HERITAGE RAILWAY

August 23 & 24, 1–4pm. Details Ireland’s longest established Heritage railway, running through the woodland surrounding Stradbally Hall Estate. Tickets €5 (adult) and €2 (child). MARKET HOUSE

The overseeing architect Richard McLoughlin in the restoration of Stradbally Market House, a unique Covered Market of 1899, . will present the history behind this unique building, and will discuss the particular challenges involved in its conservation on August 27 7pm – 8pm Portlaoise Library. STEAM MUSEUM

Open during Heritage Week August 23rd - 31st August, 9.30am - 5pm each day. The museum houses some steam traction engines and other veteran machinery. ANGLING CLUB

Stradbally Juvenile Angling Club meeting in St. Mary’s Hall on Monday, August 11 commencing at 8pm. All juveniles and mentors are to attend.

WHIST DRIVE

Next whist drive will be on Friday,August 15 at 8.30pm in St. Patrick’s Hall. Thank you for your continued support.

MEALS ON WHEELS

Tickets are on sale for the annual raffle with €700 in prizemoney. Draw for prizes will take place in St. Joseph’s Hall on Saturday, August 23 at 7pm.

CYCLE CHALLENGE

Sunday August 31st all roads will lead to Fisherstown Ballybrittas Co.Laois for the running of the 100km cycle challenge others events include a 50 km cycle and a short run for families and individuals , high nellies also welcome. Start and finish at Fishermans Inn where refreshments will be served to all afterwards further info phone 0872654001.

YOUTH 2000

Cistercian College, Roscrea, Co Tipperary from Thursday, August 14 to Sunday, August 17 for young people aged 16-35. The festival is donation only and free buses available from towns throughout Ireland. See www.youth2000.ie or call 01-6753690.

LIVERPOOL FanS CLUB

Next outing for the club to meet on Saturday, September 13 for the Aston Villa game at 5.30pm in the Napper Tandys that evening. Complimentary food & draw on the night.

VICARSTOWN VINTAGE

The Vicarstown Vintage Club Annual Road Run – threshing and family day – takes place on Sunday, August 24. Starts at 12.30pm. Proceeds to the Saplings School for Children with Autism, Graiguecullen. Support much appreciated.

STRADBALLY TOWN AFC

Can any players wishing to play senior or u-19 football with the club in the CCFL this season make sure to get registered and their membership in asap. Call Alan Wright on 086-1581290 for details. New players very welcome. Training is underway and numerous pre-season games are planned. U-19s must be born on or after January 1 1996. Road repairs

After the confusion of traffic on the Ballydavis to Stradbally road during the ploughing championship in September last year Dunamaise Community alert made representations to the organisers of this years event and last week were informed that work will commence shortly on improvements to the Ballycarroll Rock of Dunamaise road and locals are advised there maybe hold ups in the area over the coming weeks but it should be worthwhile come September.
