Crettyard all but secured their Division 1 status for another year at least as they surprisingly got the better of Portarlington last week.
A fine finish from Cristoir Maher laid the foundations for the hosts in this game as the win puts them well clear now of the relegation trap-zone.
Only a near-disaster will put the Kilkenny-border side back into the relegation mire but the signs coming from the club have been encouraging with this fine win.
Portarlington welcomed Jason Moore back into the team but the former county underage star was unable to pull this game out of the fire for his team.
Crettyard were the better side throughout with the goal from Maher coming in the opening half of the game.
His presence in the forwards, along with Sammy Kelly, caused the Port defence all sorts of problems throughout the first half.
When Portarlington finally got to grips with the game, they fought back superbly with Barry Mitchell and Paul Maher on target.
But Crettyard always held the advantage with Pa Brennan and Keith Nolan sending over second half points to help their side two very important points on the league table.
