Annanough bounce back with big win

As the saying goes, ‘goals win games’, and that was certainly the case in Timahoe on Saturday evening as Annanough comfortably dispatched the best efforts of Spink by slotting four goals to claim victory on a margin of nine points.

Undoubtedly the early indications signaled a Spink victory as within the opening four minutes they found themselves 1-2 to no score ahead, with no sign of any Annanough resistance to be seen. Damien Carter opened the Spink account in the very first minute with his dipping shot just scraping underneath the crossbar for the first goal of the day.
Points from Daithi Brennan and Cha Dwyer followed as they rounded off a dream start for Spink who looked to be cruising with a five point lead after just four minutes. Annanough continued to drag their feet as they struggled to keep up with Spink in the opening stages, and it took them until the tenth minute to register their first point through Simon Miller.
The Spink dominance began to dwindle, and Annanough began to find their stride as they racked up 2-4 without reply in a twelve minute spell to completely turn the table on their opposition. James Miller was accountable for 1-2, Simon Miller grabbed a brace, and Eddie Stynes grabbed a late goal coming up to the break to open a six point gap.
rabbed their first score in twenty-six minutes to close out the half with Mark Carroll notching his first point of the day from twenty-five yards to leave five points between the sides at the interval in a complete turn of events.
Annanough set the scoreboard back in motion literally seconds into the second half with Donal Miller restoring a six point lead. Spink replied with a point apiece form Damien Carter and Mark Carroll to reduce the margin to four points with twenty minutes left to play in the game.
In the eight minutes that followed Annanough essentially sealed the result with an unanswered 2-2. Simon Miller brought his tally to 1-3, before combining with his full-forward James Miller who grabbed his second goal of the evening after forty-six minutes.
Spink tried to find a way back and notched up points through Damien Carter (2), substitutes Micheal Downey and Podge Kelly, before James Miller and substitute Steven Miller grabbed late points for Annanough to leave ten points between the sides. Mark Carroll clinched what was to be merely a consolation point for Spink deep into injury time as Annanough cruised to victory.
