Clancy leads Timahoe to impressive win over Arles Killeen

Timahoe were involved in the best of the opening round championship games in a thrilling win over Stradbally and they kept that form going as they beat Arles Killeen in another quality encounter in the final game of the weekend at O’Moore Park on Sunday evening as once again led by Padraig Clancy they beat another of the big guns in the championship in impressive fashion.

Clancy was again in top form and at the end was probably the difference between the teams as his 0-7 return from full forward and his all round contribution proved too much for Arles Killeen to handle. In fairness to Killeen they tried everything to win this match and the return of Donie Kingston was certainly a boost to their chances but even the brilliance of Donie Brennan wasn’t enough against a Timahoe side enjoying a new lease of life and who now seem to be the top contenders in the pack behind Portlaoise.

Timahoe hit the ground running and knocked over the opening three points. Despite their strong start, they found themselves a point in arrears by the 18th minute but fought back to lead by 0-9 to 0-7 at the break. The teams were then level again twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second half before Clancy set up Ruairi O‘Connor for the decisive opening goal and from there to the finish Timahoe held the lead even if they had to endure a nervy last few minutes as they were only two ahead.
