Clinical Galway bring Laois back down to earth

It was back to reality for the Laois senior hurlers after their impressive victory over Dublin a week earlier, as they were given a 14 point drubbing by Galway in Ballinasloe in the semi final of the Walsh Cup in soft, miserable conditions

Forced to make seven changes from the side that performed so well against the Dubs, this was always going to be a difficult assignment and with Joe Canning in deadly shooting form and a more skilful Galway side punishing any indiscretions, Laois were always on the back foot.

Credit the defence though as even though 2-19 was conceded they hurled forcefully throughout, and it was because of them that Galway only led by four points at the break even though they were under constant pressure from the throw in.
