St Conleth’s put in a storming second-half performance to finish out clear winners of this U-16 ‘B’ final but the final score does not do justice to a St Joseph’s team that were very much in contention well into the second period.
St Conleth’s 8-10
St Joseph’s 2-4
The opening exchanges of this match saw St Joseph’s take an early lead as the action swung from one end to the other. After a nervous start both teams settled down to play some impressive football and the large attendance were treated to a very even contest. However, by the end of the half St Conleth’s had managed to get their noses in front to lead by 4-2 to 2-2 at half-time.
When St Conleth’s put away a couple of goals early in the second-half it left St Joseph’s facing a huge task. They continued to launch attacks of their own but as the scores failed to materialise they found it increasingly difficult to hold a St Conleth’s team that was beginning to dominate in every sector. St Conleth’s were able to call on a strong panel of subs on the sideline to bolster their team in the second-half and in an impressive show of marksmanship they availed of every opportunity to build up a formidable final score.
