David Conway stole the show in Crettyard on Thursday last as he racked up a total of ten points as Arles-Kilcruise brushed aside the Crettyard challenge to seal a spot in the semi-finals.
Prior to the game, Kilcruise were all too aware that a win would almost guarantee their place in the semi-finals - unless Stradbally could cause an upset and triumph over Portlaoise. In the end, Kilcruise won and Stradbally lost meaning Kilcruise claimed their place in the last four.
Aided by the return of County stars David Conway and Kevin Meaney, while missing the services of Ross Munnelly and Chris Conway, Kilcruise accumulated eight first half points. David Conway was on hand for five points in the opening half, while Kevin Meaney, Dylan Waters and Colm Munnelly all added points to bring their tally to eight points.
Crettyard contested throughout the half and found themselves trailing by only three points at the interval thanks to scores from Evan O’Carroll, Cormac Murphy and Cristoir Maher to keep them hot on Kilcruise’s tail at the break.
The second half proved to be much cleaner sailing for Kilcruise as their 1-3 in the ten minutes after the restart dealt Crettyard a blow to the scoreboard and their mindset. David Conway (2) and Anthony McElroy added the points for Kilcruise, while Alan McLoughlin claimed the goal.
Crettyard challenged in the latter stages of the game with Cristoir Maher grabbing a goal and Cormac Murphy splitting the posts, but Kilcruise never looked like losing their grip on the game. David Conway added points to close out the game with a final tally of ten points for the day as Kilcruise now prepare for a semi-final clash against Portlaoise.
