A point with the last kick of the game from Charles Dwyer snatched a draw for Spink in a game they should really have won with points to spare against Park-Ratheniska in Timahoe.
The equalising point summed up Spink’s day however as Dwyer, who had the goal at his mercy from close range, hit the crossbar and he was lucky it went over to level the scores rather than rebounding to safety.
It was one of four clear goal chances they missed in a game they dominated for long periods including one from the penalty spot in the first-half.
Park-Ratheniska had one goal chance after four minutes and they converted when Kieran Delaney pounced on a fumble from Joe Miller and dispatched the lose ball to the back of the net.
Mark Carroll pulled a point back for Spink from a free before Charles Dwyer hit the butt of the post when he was through on goal.
With the raining falling in Timahoe, conditions were difficult despite the perfect playing surface, and neither side added to their total from the 6th to the 23rd minute.
Spink had a guilt edged chance midway through the half but Damien Carter’s penalty was well saved low to his left by Brian Ramsbottom.
Kieran Delaney and MJ Lalor exchanged points before Park-Ratheniska pulled away late in the half with two points from Kieran Delaney to open a 1-3 to 0-2 lead.
Delaney brought his total to 1-3 shortly after half-time but that would prove to be Park-Ratheniska’s final score of the game and from there to the finish Spink dominated the game.
However they found scores hard to come by with points from man of the match Seamus Dwyer and the impressive Charles Dwyer all they mustered in the first 15 minutes of the second-half.
Midfielders Brian O’Mara and James Walsh each added a point soon after however and Spink were back within one and looked all set to go on and win the game.
The wides kept coming however, they kicked nine in the second-half alone, but with darkness falling on Timahoe, they got one last chance. While he could easily have had a dramatic match winning goal, Charles Dwyer at least managed tosnatch the draw the game when his shot cannoned over off the crossbar.
