Emo’s girls made it a doubel celebration for the school last Thursday as they claimed the Roinn 8 title with a good win over Sacred Heart, Portlaoise in the final.

Emo 2-7

Sacred Heart 1-1

.

The girls Roinn 1 final had only just ended when their second team were out in action in the Roinn 8 final, and they just about shaded a close and nervy opening half.

Lauren Strong was twice fouled for them to earn Victoria Moore a shot at goal, and she didn’t disappoint as she kept her cool to slot the ball between the posts.

Strong then played a wonderful pass to Alex Andrews to run onto, and she popped it over the bar to leave Emo three points up, a lead they would hold until the break.

Sacred Heart were a little unlucky in front of goal, and could have been level at half time only for Amy Byrne’s shot for a goal hitting the post and bouncing away.

Alex Andrew and Lauren Strong then bit points for Emo on the restart to stretch their lead even further. Sacred Heart were trying their hardest to get some scores, but they were hit with a sucker punch when Lauren Strong scored a goal.

Sacred Heart finally got the scores their hard work merited when Amy Byrne hit a goal and a point, but Emo were still going strong. Lauren Strong added a second goal before the final whistle and Emo won out.
