ON a night when it rained goals in O’Moore Park, Ballyroan Abbey helped themselves to five and in doing so secured their place in this year’s Intermediate Football Final.

Ballyroan Abbey 5-6

Ballyfin 2-7

Hugely impressive full-forward Scott Conroy helped himself to a hat-trick with his third, his team’s fifth, ten minutes after half-time effectively ending the game as a contest. Conroy was lethal in front of goal and finished the game with 3-2 in a man of the match display.

With Gerry Scully playing as a sweeper for much of the game, Ballyroan were also impressive at the back restricitng Ballyfin to just 1-2 in the first-half while three of the points they conceded in the second-half came late in the piece when the game was already well and truly won.

Ballyfin were punished for leaving too many gaps at the back with Ballyroan having 4-3 on the board before half-time. The pivotal period in the game came in the final five minutes of the first-half when Ballyroan moved from three points ahead to ten points ahead with a quick-fire 2-1 that firmly swung the momentum in their favour.
