Rathdowney-Errill made club history on Sunday afternoon as they produced a gutsy second half performance to win a first ever game in the Leinster club SHC.
AIB Leinster Club SHC
Rathdowney-Errill 1-12
Clonkill (Westmeath) 0-12
Frankie McGrath’s side threw away a three point half-time lead in the space of seven minutes, and with all the momentum with Clonkill, they showed remarkable character to battle back. A goal after 39 minutes restored their confidence, and as both sides went point for point in the second half it was Rathdowney-Errill who came up with the winning scores, thanks to Ross King.
The hero of the two county finals hit the last three points of the game to edge Rathdowney-Errill home, but they had to withstand a late siege from Clonkill. The Westmeath champions tried desperately to grab the goal which would earn them a draw, but Rathdowney-Errill defended for their lives and were eventually rewarded with a priceless victory.
