The hunt is on for a new manager for the Laois Senior Hurling teams after Teddy McCarthy from the post after just one year in charge.

Rumours had been rife in the county that McCarthy would not be returning and his decision to resign has brought an end to the uncertainty.

It was a tough year for Laois who will be hurling in the third tier in the league next year after their relegation in the Spring while the team also struggled in the championship with a win over Carlow in the first round in Leinster being their only notable success in 2012.

At a recent County Board meeting the pervasive opinion was that a local manager should be appointed but it remains to be seen who will be approached to fill the post.

A decision has yet to be taken on whether Laois will compete in the All Ireland Series or the Christy Ring Cup next year.
