Hurling challenge for cancer
Camross and Castletown-Slieve Bloom GAA clubs have come together to help raise funds for Laois Hospice and St James Hospital in Dublin.
The two great rivals have been in discussion over the last couple of weeks to decide the best way to pool their reserves in an effort to raise badly needed finance and in these difficult times and at a time when demand for money is at its greatest they had to come up with something that would give some thing back to the supporters of the fundraiser.
They have decided to go with a hurling game with teams chosen from over forties in both clubs and they say the response has been very positive from these players.
The game is scheduled for Derrynaseera on New Years Day throwing in at 1pm with Rathdowney official Pat Delaney turning back the clock.
Seventeen years ago the Rathdowney man was in charge for Castletowns biggest day that was the semi-final victory over the reigning champions Camross and led by John O’Sullivan the Noresiders under Frank Keenan went on to capture the O’Keefe Cup for the first time. Since then they went on to equal the Camross and Ballygeehan records of five senior titles in a row.
There will be a souvenir programme featuring some great games involving both clubs on sale at the game.
At the interval there will be under age games between both clubs and both ask you to come out and support this worthy cause.
