Laois senior footballers started their 2013 NFL season in impressive fashion on Saturday night, as they gave glimpses of what could be some exciting times ahead in a seven point win over Armagh.

Allianz Football League Division 2

Laois 0-20

Armagh 1-10

.

Laois played some very impressive football in the first half, as they clicked into gear after roughly 15 minutes of play and ran riot from there to half time. They scored nine points without reply as Armagh looked like a team struggling to draw breath against the waves of Laois attacks bearing down on them.

After a cagey opening, Laois clicked into gear and scored nine points without reply to cruise clear of Armagh.

Padriag Clancy, Ross Munnelly, Conor Boyle, Billy Sheehan, Brendan Quigley, Darren Strong and Donie Kingston all got on the scoresheet as Armagh simply had no answer to Laois’ attacking play.

That put Laois 0-13 to 0-4 in front at half time, and Ross Munnelly’s free put them ten ahead three minutes into the second half. Armagh hit back after that scoring 1-4 in short order to make it a three point game but they would get no closer than that.

Laois awoke from their slumber thanks to another point from Ross Munnelly, and they opened up a five point lead quickly after that. Armagh’s last score came nine minutes from time, through Ethan Rafferty, but Laois finished strongly with points from Billy Sheehan (2) and Ross Munnelly to finally put the result beyond doubt, as Laois put a deserved gloss on the final score .
