Keenan points the way to All Ireland glory

CJ Sheeran Ltd were crowned All-Ireland Interfirms Junior Hurling Champions following a three point victory over Teagasc Moorepark from Cork, in an entertaining encounter at the weekend.

Zane Keenan from Camross scored eight points on the day, six of them in the opening half, as CJ Sheeran’s lead by 0-6 to 0-1 after 25 minutes. At the half time interval, it was 0-6 to 0-2 after the introduction of Dave Russell for Teagasc, who got the last point in the opening half from a placed ball.

The first point came twelve seconds into the second half from Peter Rice to ensure CJ Sheeran led by five.

Russell was immense for Cork in the second half. Andrew Collier traded points with Russell before Zane Keenan, Shanahoe’s Anthony Kirwain and Mountrath’s Dan Russell added scores for Sheerans to leave them leading by six, nine minutes into the second half.

CJ Sheeran Ltd added one more point in this game. Cork’s Dave Russell put huge pressure on the Sheeran defence, with the likes of Darrell Dooley and Andrew Collier coming to the fore for Sheerans.

Teagasc got the gap back to three points, but Zane Keenan pointed a late penalty to help secure a 0-12 to 0-9 victory. Padraig Cuddy the victorious captain accepted the cup on behalf of CJ Sheeran Ltd from Tony Maher, President of the Interfirm Association.
