Laois hit Wicklow for six to reach Leinster semi-final

A six goal blitz saw Laois through to the semi-final of the Leinster U-21 Football Championship at the expense of Wicklow in O’Moore park on Wednesday evening.

Cadbury’s Leinster U-21 FC

Laois 6-11

Wicklow 2-8

.

In an entertaining game, the final scoreline probably flattered Laois a little, as two of the goals only came in the last three minutes to put a more favourable look on the scoreboard. In spite of that, Laois were fully deserving of the win, as they overcame a sluggish start to dominate the majority of the game.

Prolific forward Evan O’Carroll added a hat-trick to go with his two goals against Offaly. Wicklow started strongly getting an early goal but Laois hit back and by the break were 2-6 to 1-3 ahead with both goals coming from O’Carroll.

O’Carroll completed his hat-trick shortly after half-time as Laois eased clear. Kevin McGrath added a fourth goal before Wicklow staged a mini revival to get the score back to 4-9 to 2-7.

However Laois added two more goals in the closing stages with McGrath adding his second and Paul Kingston also getting in on the goal scoring act.

Laois now play Kildare in the semi-final. Elsewhere Dublin were beaten by Longford and Wexford saw off Westmeath after extra-time
