Laois ladies will play Cavan on August 9 in the TG4 Senior All-Ireland Qualifiers. The draw was made on Saturday and Laois manager Des Cooney sees it as ‘a difficult draw for Laois’.

Cooney commented, “Cavan are last year’s Intermediate All-Ireland Champions and are full of confidence following their win over Meath. The momentum will be with Cavan and Laois will be anxious to redeem themselves after the Leinster final performance.”

Cavan’s 1-15 to 0-13 victory over Meath last weekend was more convincing than Laois’ win over Meath in the Leinster semi-final by two points, 4-12 to 3-13. Cavan have some strong players, including Claragh O’ Reilly who scored 0-7 in their win over Meath earning her Player of the Match.

In addition to O’ Reilly, Cavan have 2013 All-Star Neasa Byrd in midfield and Ailish Cornyn in centre back.

Laois have great experience in pivotal positions and, while perhaps going into the game as slight underdogs due to this season’s performances, they should use this game as an opportunity to restore pride in Laois Ladies Football after their humiliating 6-21 to 0-5 defeat to Dublin in the Leinster final two weeks ago.
