St Joseph’s Wexford was the venue for last week’s Leinster Cumann na mBunscol Handball Finals, with Laois represented in all sections.

The Boys games ran last Tuesday with four separate competitions - U-13 and U-11 Singles and Doubles with girls games running on Wednesday, again with four sections. Laois competed very well in all grades with two competitions being won by Laois representatives – the U-11 doubles both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Josh and Jonah Kelly from Mayo NS put in some great performances to claim the U-11 boys doubles title while Ruby McEvoy and Emma Delaney from Cullohill edged out Wexford opposition Danielle Kinsella and Emily Moran to win the girls U-11 final.

Ciaran Burke from Ballyadams NS represented Laois in the U-13 boys singles and eventually lost out to Wexford opposition in an exciting final. The U-13 pairing was from Newtown NS with Brian Brennan and Cormac Lyndsey performing very well in all games. Cullohill’s Jim O’Connor took part in the U-11 singles with Kilkenny taking top honours in this section and again, Jim playing well throughout.

The games will give all involved great experience and with many eligible to compete again next year it augers well for handball in the county at this level.
