Rathdowney-Errill advance with win over Clonkill

A goal from John Purcell 20 minutes from time and three late points from Ross King were the crucial score as Rathdowney Errill advanced to the Leinster Club Senior Hurling semi-final with a win over Clonkill.

Clonkill 0-12

The Laois champions had led by as many as five points in the first-half but the lead was reduced to three at the break.

Eight minutes after the restart, Rathdowney-Errill suddenly found themselves behind and the game seemed to be going away from them.

However they responded with Purcell’s timely goal that settled them back into the game. Clonkill again fought back to get on level terms with Brendan Murtagh to the fore but young star Ross King had the final say in the game hitting over the last three points to guide his side to victory.

They will now face Offaly champions Kilcormac/Killoughey in the semi-final on November 18.

Elsewhere Emo lost out in the Leinster Club Intermediate Football Championship to O’Connell’s while Colt had a good win over Pearse Og in the Leinster Junior Hurling Championship.
