SHC final to be replayed on Saturday

Laois GAA fans will be treated to a bumper two days of action this weekend after it was confirmed the Laois SHC final will be replayed on Saturday afternoon at 3.45pm in O’Moore Park.

It will precede the senior football and intermediate football finals, which take place on Sunday, with the junior hurling final to be replayed this Thursday night at 7.45pm. Laois GAA have also confirmed that admission to the replay will cost €10.

It was a day of late drama in O’Moore Park on Sunday, with the final results in all three finals decided by scores in injury time. Ross King’s fantastic late point earned Rathdowney-Errill a replay after it had looked like Clough-Ballacolla were about to snatch a dramatic late victory. Trailing by five points, they scored 1-3 in four minutes to take a one point lead, only for King to deny them victory thanks to his late intervention.

In the intermediate final, Chris Jones was the hero for Borris-Kilcotton as his injury time goal secured a one point win over Colt. The Raheen men had lead for the majority of the game, but were denied late on when Jones took advantage of a lapse in defence to sweep home from close range.

The first game of the day also ended all square, as Timahoe staged a remarkable comeback to overturn a seven point deficit and earn a replay. Ballypickas had streaked ahead in the second half and looked to have the JHC ‘A’ title wrapped up when they went seven clear, but Timahoe slowly worked their way back into it, and Padraig Kelly hit two late points to give them another shot at the title.

The replay will be the first ever JHC ‘A’ final to be played in Laois under floodlights, with throw in on Thursday night down for 7.45pm.

Wow. What a finish to a game that promised so much, for the most part delivered little, and then exploded into life for the last five minutes.
