December 29 was a historic occasion when Morley Gaels from Perth Western Australia travelled to Kellyville to take on local team St Joseph’s with the inclement weather on the day providing a not so warm welcome for the visitors to Co. Laois.

Led onto the field by the Killeshin Pipe Band, both teams got to meet GAA President Liam O’Neill before the game got underway. Morley Gaels got off to a good start, but a James Doyle goal before half time left it 1-1 to 0-3 at the break in favour of the hosts.

Both teams traded goals in the second half as conditions made it difficult for open football, but overall it was an excellent game played out in unique circumstances. Morley Gaels were then presented with the Pat Butler Cup.
