Laois’ five Camogie Soaring Stars picked up their richly deserved awards at a glittering banquet in the CityWest Hotel on Saturday evening.

Louise Mahony, Aisling Dunphy, Laura Dunne, Niamh Dollard and Sarah-Anne Fitzgerald were among the 15 recipients who were recognised for their performances in the Premier Junior and Junior A Championships this year.

It was a memorable year for Laois Camogie as they won the Division 3 title before reaching the Leinster Junior Final and the Liberty Insurance All Ireland Junior Premier Final. Unfortunately for Laois, on both those occasions they were just pipped to the post by neoghbours Kildare who picked up six Soaring Star Awards on the night.

Special guest on the evening was former Cork goalkeeper and current GPA Chairman Donal Og Cusack who gave a memorable speech which was greeted by rapturous applause from the 700 plus people in attendance.

The season is not yet over for camogie in Laois as Camross go in search of an AIB Leinster Intermediate Club title this Sunday when they face Kilkenny’s Ballyhale Shamrocks in the provincial final in Nowlan Park.

Camross had a fine win over Offaly champions Shinrone in the semi-final and with newly crowned Soaring Stars Sarah Anne Fitzgerald and Niamh Dollard in their ranks, they will travel to Kilkenny confident that they can add the provincial title to the Laois title.
