Scoil Phádraig Naofa, Mountmellick came good in the second half to claim the Roinn 9 title under the floodlights in O’Moore Park last Wednesday.

Scoil Phádraig Naofa 3-2

Ballyadams 0-4

Both teams were well matched for most of the game, and it was only in the last ten minutes that the Mountmellick school managed to get the upper hand.

Before that they had been neck and neck all the way, having been level at half time. Roinn 9 is for schools with enough students for two teams, and both showed they have loads of talent in reserve.

The impressive Luke Gleeson got the scoring underway for Ballyadams with a point from a free after seven minutes, with Jack Fanning adding another soon after. Gleeson then split the posts with his first effort from play as it looked like Ballyadams would be the dominant side, but Mountmellick hit back with a goal from Curtis Lee. Gleeson and Oisin Conroy-Bourke then traded points as the teams were level at half time 1-1 to 0-4.

The second half was proving just as close, with the first score coming after seven minutes with Oisin Conroy-Bourke blasted to the back of the net.

There was still only one score between the sides after that goal at 2-1 to 0-4, but Conroy-Bourke coolly popped over a free before Alan Quigley-Dunne put the icing on the cake with a late goal for Mountmellick.
