AN incredible cameo from eight year old Jonah Kelly from the substitutes bench proved crucial as Mayo NS won the Division 8 Boys Cumann na mBunscol Final.
Cumann na mBunscol Final Boys Division 8
Mayo NS 5-6
The young man, who lists Dublin’s Stephen Cluxton as his favourite sports star, will undoubtedly be terrorising Cluxton’s colleagues in the goalkeepers union for years to come.
Ballacolla opened the scoring with a long range point from Aaron Brophy but that was cancelled out by Tadgh Dunne.
With the scores level, Jonah Kelly was introduced and he made an immediate impact with a long range goal to the top corner of the net. Conor Mulhall added a goal from a free to increase the lead but Ballacolla hit back with a goal of their own from Denis Meade to bring them right back into the game.
Before half-time however Mayo put daylight between the sides with Tadgh Dunne and Conor Mulhall adding goals to put them 4-3 to 1-4 in front at the break.
A goal from TJ Hally and a point from Aaron Brophy got Ballacolla back in touch but a second goal from Jonah Kelly put Mayo back in control.
Ballacolla never gave up and Aaron Brophy fired 1-1 late in the game but it was just too little to turn the tide of the game.
