Kavanagh’s all set to host Cheltenham Preview night

The Cheltenham festival takes place from March 12 to 15 and is the highlight of the year for all Horse Racing fans. This year Kavanaghs Bar & Venue have pulled out all the stops to bring some of the big names of the sport to their venue to give the punter the inside scoup on what’s what for this year festival.

Guest MC on the night is none other than Matt Chapman from At The Races. The panel includes familiar faces including jockeys Katie Walsh, Danny Mullins and Andrew Leigh. The racing journalist Niall Cronin from the Evening Herald and a representative from Paddy Power are also panelists.

Katie Walsh, being a daughter of the well known amateur jump jockey, trainer and television pundit, Ted Walsh, as well as being a sister to top class jump jockey, Ruby Walsh, was only going to ever be involved in one sport. Since beginning her own riding career in 2003, Katie has established herself as one of the best amateur jockeys in the country. Indeed, she showed that she can compete with the very best when completing a notable double at the Cheltenham Festival in 2010.

Coming straight from Jim Bolgers yard Danny Mullins brings with him the inside story form one of Ireland most successfull trainers. To say that the promising young flat jockey Danny Mullins hails from a strong racing background would be an understatement. Indeed, it would be more appropriate to say he is the latest member of a racing dynasty that has been omnipresent on the Irish racing scene for many decades.

Matt Chapman, 34, was born in Guildford and joins At The Races having spent eight years as a journalist on the Racing Post and four years with the Racing Channel. He became fascinated by foreign racing after two and a half years at the International Racing Bureau, in Newmarket, and has also been PR director for the Tote and agent to top Flat rider Darryll Holland.

Come along for what promises to be an intruiging insight into the biggest racing festival in the World. Tickets are priced €15 and must be purchased in advance from Kavanaghs Bar and Venue, Main Street, Portlaoise. All audience members will receive a free €5 matched bet from Paddy Power, a free pint of Guinness and €5 discount from Kavanaghs Cheltenham Challenge.
