With less than twelve days to go until the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel Stages rally the Birr and District Motor club are putting the finishing touches to months of preparation for this event.

Over 90 entries have been received for this rally which is the first round on the Dunlop National, Loughran Signs Midlands East, and Top Part West Coast rally Championships.

Kerry crew Thomas Fitzmorris and Co-driver Fionn Foley will be tackling the Laois stages in their newly acquired Subaru S12B world rally car which made its debut last weekend at the Galway International rally. Last year’s group N winner Colm Murphy has entered in his Subaru imprezza, and hopes to regain the group N title again this year.

Derry driver Camulis Bradley in his Mk2 escort is entered among some of the class 14 entries received. Local crew Oliver Stanley and Co-Driver Edward Thompson intended to battle among the class 13 cars in Oliver’s newly built Ford Focus.

Clerk of the course Bill Ryan who hails from neighbouring Knockaroo has 9 special stages chosen for Sunday week. Stage 1 will begin at Oldtown, with stage 2 moving towards Clough and stage 3 at Harristown.Service halt will take place at the Rathdowney shopping outlet. Mechanical scrutiny will take place on Saturday 25th beside Oliver Stanley’s garage in Durrow from 2pm.

The rally was launched on Sunday evening last at the Manor Hotel Abbeyleix.Their was a good turn out on the evening and the club had 4 rally cars on display ,all of which are doing the upcoming rally. The local Gardai along with the local community turn up to show their support for the event and we look forward to the weekend of the 26th.
